Manually removing a zit can be very painful. There are a few steps you can take to prepare the extraction to make it as painless as possible. There are no expensive or intricate instruments, you will only need your fingers or a paper clip. Preparing the site is the most important thing to take care of and will often determine how painful it is going to be.

To prepare the zit, you have to make sure it is ready to pop. The zit should have a white head visible. Sometimes this white head is not noticeable and you will have to gently press on the edges to make the white head appear. After verifying that the zit is ready to be removed, it is time to take care of it. Get a warm damp cloth and hold it against the zit for a few minutes. This will cause the skin to soften and the skin to relax a little bit. The relaxed skin will make the expulsion easier as you will not have to force it out.

After your targeted zit is nice and warm and soft it is time to use your fingers.

Place one finger on each side of the zit. Press a little bit inwards and toward the center of the zit. This will cause a lot of pressure on the base of the pore. Since you relaxed the skin on top of the zit, the puss should be released easily and with little to no pain. Then bend the paper clip into a “U” shape. Place the paper clip around the zit. The inside of the “U” will be touching the edged of the zit.

Take your other hand and put a finger like you did the first time on the edge. Using the paper clip and your finger progress to the middle and giving a slight push downward. This is a similar technique to using just your fingers but there is a different application of force going on inside.

When you used just your fingers, you were applying force from two directions. This allowed the zit to disperse the force and the thick skin on top was help intact. By using the paperclip, you are exerting force from all around the zit. There is no path for the force to be dispersed, except up and out. This method is slightly more painful, but by preparing the zit with the warm cloth, there should not be too much pain. Getting zits is not something a person wants.
