Right, not as harsh… And it is still a necessary step because you need to close the pores, otherwise it is easier for them to get clogged with dirt, dead skin cells, etc. The calming step is not delayed for a long period of time it is still “right after you shave”, if you skip the aftershave/toner step it just invites impurities along with the lotion, causing the skin to become easily soiled, exacerbating skin problems like blemishes.
@Chipwhitley274 Witch hazel is 70% alcohol and could be quite irritating to the skin. Right after you shave you’re supposed to calm the skin because the skin gets sensetive after you shave. I use a mild moisturizer with sunscreen as an aftershave. That’s just my opinion and it works best for my sensetive skin.
Aftershave is actually important even with sensitive skin because you don’t want to skip the step of closing up the pores, in fact if you have a good aftershave that has certain ingredients that naturally fight blemishes and razor bumps it is even more helpful. Often times a women’s line clarifying tonic is best, the right kinds use witches hazel instead of alcohol which does the job but is not as harsh. Then you moisturize to avoid keeping it to dry and to sooth.
Baby Oil is not designed for preshave. A proper preshave oil/lotion is not just oil it has other properties that damage the cuticles of the hair so that it can actually become saturated with water (further damaging the hair), also there are properties that will open up the pores of the skin so it does not cling to the hairs as much. Proper shaving creams also have important properties that are miles above “any shaving cream” so it is not something to discount.
That was some really good advice dude. I enjoyed it. Any tips on ingrown hairs?
I have a heavy beard and it took me several (painful) years to realize that the object of shaving a man’s face is not the same as shaving a woman’s legs (or any other part of a woman’s body); there’s no reason to try for a shave as smooth as a baby’s bottom. Just try to get your face clean looking with growth more or less evened out. My beard is usually heavier around the chin and mustache and very smooth everywhere else.
For other guys with crazy beards-mine is thick and grows in all different directions so I’m the 2nd one on here to avoid the “with” or “against” hair direction issue, because I need both. I find it best to shave with first, and then with a nice sharp new (or I guess dried) razor go against and it’s nice and clean. I use the 3-blade green and black bendy ones, I think XTreme or something but I don’t remember

I’ve found that using a razor with more blades on them have made my beard thicker. So, shaving is a lot harder on the face and the hair seems to grow back faster.
I saw the cat in the begining on the stairs.

5* for the cat in thee backscreen xD
using a facescrub before shaving helps a lot for me!
